A man has been arrested following a police incident late last night in Forres.
Squads of officers were called to a property in the Pilmuir area of the town at around 9pm and set about evacuating residents from their homes.
Last night, locals took to social media to say they had been urged to find somewhere else to stay while police dealt with the matter.
The incident is understood to have carried on until the early hours with reports of a stand off between police and at least one individual.
At one stage, officers could be seen ducking for cover as roof tiles were thrown towards a police car parked outside.
Police have confirmed there were no injuries and said inquiries are ongoing.
Twelve families left their homes during the incident, with Moray Council opening a rest centre for those who had been displaced.
Scottish Gas Network (SGN) said the supply in approximately 80 properties was turned off at the request of the emergency services.
Those impacted were in the Nursery Lane, Randolph Lane, Fraser Street and Stuart Street areas.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “During the evening, we dealt with an incident at Stuart Street, Forres which resulted in a number of properties gas supplies being disconnected and a small number of persons evacuated.
“A 26 year old male was arrested from a property within the street. SGN will be attending in the area today to re-connect the affected addresses.”
The man is expected to appear at Elgin Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
