An underpass in the centre of Elgin is scheduled to undergo £25,000 of essential maintenance work.
The passageway, between the town’s bus station and Aldi car park, runs beneath the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road.
It is also used to reach Cooper Park, Elgin Library and other shops from the town centre.
The works, which start on Monday and are expected to last about three weeks, will involve replacing parapets and handrails with new steel versions.
The underpass will remain open to pedestrians throughout the project, but temporary safety barriers will be in place to ensure safe passage past the work area.
The A96 trunk road will be unaffected during the works.
Andy Thompson, Bear Scotland’s north-east representative, said: “These essential maintenance works will ensure that the Alexandra Way underpass continues to operate safely for all pedestrians.
“We’ve arranged the works so that pedestrian access is maintained at all times during the improvements, however we would ask all underpass users to follow any safety signs or footway diversions that are in place.”
