One person has died and three more injured after a horror crash on a country road in Moray.
Police , fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene on an unclassified road leading from Forres to Califer Hill, near Wester Newforres, at around 1.35am on Wednesday.
All four individuals are understood to have been travelling in a red Vauxhall Corsa when it crashed near the Newforres Quarry road.
The driver of the vehicle, a 24-year-old woman from the Forres area, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The rear offside passenger, a 22-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries and is being treated in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
The rear nearside passenger, a 23 year old male, also suffered serious injuries and is being treated in Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.
Meanwhile, the front seat passenger, a 31-year-old male suffered minor injuries and is being treated at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin.
Road Policing Sergeant Colin Matheson said, “My thoughts and those of my officers and the other emergency services who were in attendance are with all those affected by this terrible tragedy.
“I am extremely interested in speaking to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have seen the vehicle, a red Vauxhall Corsa, in the area beforehand.
“Similarly, I would urge anyone with information on where the vehicle and its occupants were before the collision to contact us in order to help piece together exactly what has happened.”
The road is currently closed while officers carry out an investigation into the circumstances around the crash.
