‘Confusing signs are leading Moray motorists to station car park instead of business estate’

Moray MP Douglas Ross has asked Transport Scotland to consider changes to the signs.
Moray MP Douglas Ross has asked Transport Scotland to consider changes to the signs.

Confused Moray motorists, on the search for a Forres business estate, have been reported as ending up in a train station car park.

Railway services in the community were transformed earlier this year as part of a massive investment to improve the line in the region.

However, signs on the nearby A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road have not been updated to reflect the change of road layout.

Yesterday, Transport Scotland pledged to revisit the issue to ensure the directions were clear for car drivers.

Moray MP Douglas Ross said: “This is causing considerable confusion and I know some businesses are reporting that customers are having real difficulty finding them.

“Drivers approaching from the east on their way to the waste disposal facility at Waterford or businesses nearby are directed into the car park of the railway station.

“At the actual junction, there are still no signs in either direction, which is very unhelpful.”

As part of the work to build the new railway station, a separate junction was added to the A96, in addition to the turn-off for passengers, to allow access to Waterford across the tracks.

A Transport Scotland spokesman said: “We take road safety very seriously and worked closely with the designers and contractors on the Forres station development, including work on the signage on the trunk road network.

“We thank the local residents for raising their concerns and will revisit the directional signage around the station as soon as possible.”
