Three people have been taken to hospital after being cut from their car following a crash on a Moray road this evening.
The collision, which involved a blue Ford Focus and a white Ford Fiesta, occurred on the outskirts of Forres at 6.20pm.
A man and woman – both thought to be pensioners – were trapped in the front of the Focus following the smash, along with another woman in the back.
The road was closed as firefighters went to work on freeing them so that they could be treated by waiting paramedics.
Witnesses described the road conditions as “slushy” following snow in the area.
The accident took place on the A96 Inverness to Aberdeen route, east of Forres at the junction leading to the Califer Hill viewpoint.
A spokesman for the fire service confirmed that the roof one car had been removed so that the casulaties could be released and taken to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin.
The spokesman said: “Two people were released from one of the cars using hydraulic cutting gear, and were passed on to the ambulance service.”
A police spokesman added that the injuries sustained were “not thought to be life-changing”.
The road was closed at about 6.20pm and reopened at 8.40pm.
