A Moray primary school has been forced to close by an outbreak of a vomiting bug.
Burghead Primary is shut for the remainder of the week after a number of children came down with gastrointestinal infections.
On Monday parents were warned that a number of children had been affected with diarrhoea and vomiting.
A letter from NHS Grampian, which was sent home with pupils at the end of the day, said: “At this time of the year it is common for viral infections to cause these symptoms.”
It also warned that sick children should be keep at home for 48 hours after the symptoms had settled.
Moray Council took the decision to shut the school over Thursday and Friday to allow for a deep clean of the premises to prevent the infection from spreading further.
A Moray Council spokesperson said: “Due to an outbreak of gastrointestinal infection, Burghead Primary will close to staff and pupils on January 18 and 19 to allow a deep clean to be carried out. This is to prevent the further spread of infection. On Wednesday, five members of staff were absent and unwell, with two confirmed as having a sickness bug, and 32 pupils were absent or sent home.”
