A weekend of badminton has been organised to fill the competitive void in Moray.
The sport is popular across the region, but there is little in the way of competitions for players to sharpen their skills.
However, Badminton Scotland and Moray Council have now organised round robin tournaments for adults and families.
Kim Paterson, the council’s sports development officer, said: “Badminton is a strong sport in Moray. However, there are a lack of competition opportunities, particularly for adults.
“This weekend will be an opportunity to check the appetite for more competitive action in the area and, if successful, we will look to implement a programme of competitions throughout the year.
“We hope these events will help develop connections between existing clubs and groups so they can organise their own informal matches.”
Feather shuttles will be used for the adult competition. Pairings of two juniors, a parent and child, or grandparent and child will be allowed in the family event.
Andrew MacKenzie, regional development officer for Badminton Scotland, said: “The council and us are really looking forward to the event, because we want to increase badminton opportunities in Moray.
“We both feel this is a great opportunity for clubs, community centres, village halls and school teams to represent their area and show off their skills.”
The action will take place at Milne’s High School from Friday, February 16. Places can be booked by e-mailing andrew@badmintonscotland.org.uk or by calling 07539 118003.
