A Moray woman is preparing to overcome her hatred of gravy in honour of a charity close to her heart.
Stacy Grant, from Elgin, “detests” the sauce but plans to sit in a bath of it in her garden while friends pay to pour jugs of the brown mixture over her head.
The 26-year-old postie is undertaking the challenge in an effort to raise cash for the Kidney Research UK charity, after her mum donated a kidney to her dad and transformed his life.
She said: “My dad had kidney disease for years, and was on the brink of being put on dialysis when he got the transplant six years ago.
“I had wanted to give him a kidney personally, but I was too young at the time so my mum stepped up.
“He had been in worsening health, he was tired and sleepy all the time.
“But now he is completely normal, and we have been able to do things as a family which we never were before.
“I want people to know how effective these operations can be.”
She will take the unusual dip on March 8, which is World Kidney Day.
Miss Grant picked the quirky method of fundraising to capitalise on her dislike of gravy, which is well-known among family and friends.
“Everyone knows I dislike gravy, and I thought people would be more likely to sponsor me for that reason”, she added.
“It will be a struggle to sit in it, with jugs being poured over me, and I don’t expect it will be very warm outside.”
The charity champion is also holding a raffle at her home on March 10.
Miss Grant’s mum, Patsy Grant, commended her daughter on the effort she is going to.
She added: “Stacy saw how ill her dad was, and how he’s now leading a normal life.
“And she absolutely detests gravy, she won’t even have a drop with a Sunday roast.”
World Kidney Day is a global awareness campaign designed to inform people about the importance of the vital organ.
The Kidney Research UK charity states that three million people in the UK have kidney disease for which there is no cure.
But the group aims to save lives by developing treatments and funding scientific breakthroughs.
