A third Moray school has had to close in about a month following another outbreak of a vomiting bug.
Aberlour Primary School will remain closed for the rest of the week after a large amount of pupils came down with the illness.
Classes have been suspended until Monday to allow a deep clean of the premises to be done to ensure there is no further outbreak. Parents were notified about the decision last night.
Aberlour is the third primary school since the beginning of the year to be affected by the sickness and vomiting bug.
Burghead Primary School was forced to close on January 18 and 19 after a third of its students fell ill with the infection.
Hythehill Primary School in Lossiemouth was also affected about a week later after 83 youngsters called in sick, more than a quarter of the pupil roll.
Parents are advised to keep their children off school for at least 48 hours once all the symptoms of the bug, which can last up to three days, have gone.
Moray MSP Richard Lochhead said: “Clearly this is a highly unusual outbreak and must be deemed severe if the school needs to close, especially so soon after the mid-term break.
“The fact a number of schools have closed recently shows how vulnerable pupils and staff are to bugs. I’m sure parents will understand and hopefully normality will resume soon.”
A Moray Council spokesman said: “The school will be closed today and Friday for a deep clean due to a high incidence of gastrointestinal illness. The school will reopen on Monday.”
