A motorist has died following a two-car crash on a Moray road.
The collision happened on the B9105 Rothes to Kingston road – at Orton, near Boat O’Brig – just before 5pm yesterday.
Police, the fire service and the ambulance service were all called to the scene, which was close to a disused station house.
One driver was killed while at least two others were injured in the smash.
It is understood that one of the vehicles struck a pylon causing overhead cables to fall onto the rail track which runs parallel to the road.
Two fire appliances from Rothes and Fochabers were sent to the site, with 12 firefighters assisting.
They used cutting gear to access both cars and helped to make the scene safe before leaving the scene at about 5.40pm.
Witnesses reported seeing crash investigation units arriving at the scene and police confirmed that one of the drivers involved had been killed in the crash.
Scotrail was forced to suspend services for several hours until the lines were cleared.
Replacement buses were put on for passengers at stops across the route, between Aberdeen and Inverness.
Scottish Hydro staff were called to clear the debris from the line and the tracks were reopened at about 7.45pm.
