A Moray hotel that closed its doors earlier this month, leaving couples without a venue for their wedding, has been listed on the property market for a “quick sale”.
Charter surveyors DM Hall have been appointed as the firm to oversee the sale of the Mansion House Hotel in Elgin.
The firm has listed the plush B-listed building, which is more than 130 years old, with a guide price of £975,000 in an attempt to find new owners.
Yesterday, the agents were confident the hotel, which is currently operating a reduced bed and breakfast service under temporary management appointed by Santander, who are owed money, could be fully open again before the summer season.
Trading was suspended by accountants Wylie and Bisset while the financial position of the business was investigated until it was reopened to aid attempts to find a buyer.
Despite an annual turnover of more than £1million in recent years, former owner David Baker was declared bankrupt earlier this month with an unpaid tax bill of £90,000.
Suzanne Lawrie, who is overseeing the sale for DM Hall, explained potential bidders had already been getting in contact about the venue.
She said: “There is a significant degree of interest in this property, not least because it has iconic status in the local market as an upmarket destination venue.
“It certainly has the potential to operate again as a highly successful hotel.
“The annual turnover in recent years was in excess of £1million and we are seeking offers around £975,000, which includes the trade inventory as well as a three-bedroom gate lodge in the grounds.
“From a commercial point of view, it is important that the hotel can be brought to life before the summer season gets into full swing. I am highly optimistic that a suitable buyer can be found.”
The hotel reopened about two-weeks after the doors were closed, but without the swimming pool, bar, spa, hair salon and restaurant in operation.
The hotel has 23 bedrooms, although only 22 are currently in use, with a further three bedrooms in the grade C-listed lodge that stands at the entrance to the grounds.
