A tandem cyclist was airlifted to hospital last night after falling off her bike.
The woman suffered serious facial injuries in the accident, which happened on the A947 Craigellachie to Elgin Road, just north of Rothes at the Glen of Rothes trout just after 5pm.
The injured woman was put on a stretcher before being carried into an air ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary at around 6pm.
Her injuries were considered serious, but a police spokeswoman said they were not believed to be life-threatening.
The other person who was riding the tandem bike at the time of the incident was not seriously hurt.
The road was closed for more than an hour while the woman was tended to, and the Stagecoach 36 service was diverted for the duration of the incident.
Motorists reported lengthy queues before the road reopened at around 6.30pm.
Councillor Louise Laing, who lives in Rothes, said: “I had a few people phone me up to tell me they had seen the accident.
“There are a lot of cyclists on that road and it’s very bendy, but this took place on one of the straighter parts.
“I really hope this poor woman who was taken to Aberdeen makes a full recovery.”
