Progress has been made at a Speyside school that has previously been given critical reviews by inspectors.
Teacher’s at Dufftown’s Mortlach Primary School had been told by Education Scotland to increase literacy and numeracy skills and outdoor learning opportunities.
Now inspectors have praised staff for an “increased focus” on developing the skills of children using numbers and words.
However, they were critical of “missed opportunities” to give the pupils the chance to apply their learning in the playroom and outside.
Inspector Jackie Maley said: “The acting headteacher has given clear direction to the work of the school.
“A strong focus has been given to improving the curriculum. Although this is still very much at an initial stage of development there are early indications that new approaches are having a positive impact on children’s learning experiences and the progress they are making.
“Staff now have a clearer understanding of the purpose of the curriculum and what they hope to achieve for learners in Mortlach Primary School.
“Staff have made positive attempts to design a curriculum that takes better account of the unique context of the school.”
A report will be made for Education Scotland to detail further progress within the next year before a decision is made about whether another visit is necessary.
