Convoys carrying massive turbines part from a Highlands port to a Speyside wind farm have begun. Police escorted the first of the lengthy loads from Inverness to the Dorenell site near Dufftown yesterday. Traffic was stopped in Nairn, Forres, Elgin and Huntly as the shipment made its way through the region, leading to tailbacks on roads. More convoys will be scheduled across the next 22 weeks with one due to leave Inverness today at 9.30am and another on Sunday at 8am.
