A police training team from RAF Lossiemouth has travelled to Nigeria to share its expertise and help in the fight against Boko Haram.
The team, part of RAF Lossiemouth’s 5 Force Protection Wing, have been deployed as part of a short-term training team that is working with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to improve their capabilities.
They have been tasked with delivering training in counter-intelligence, military working dog handling, special investigations and general police duties.
Squadron Leader Peter Singlehurst said the programme was just the latest chapter in a five-year plan to boost the NAF.
He said: “After the NAF requested our help to better train their forces, under our force protection agreement we sent out a team three years ago for reconnaissance.
“They then came back and organised a training plan to be implemented over the next five years,
“This is our second or third training visit but the first time we’ve added police training.”
Nigeria has been battling with Boko Haram since 2009.
The jihadists are one of the deadliest terrorist groups ever, with more than 20,000 confirmed killings.
Local forces said the efforts of the Scottish team had helped them to be “better informed and equipped” to protect Nigeria from the terrorist threat and in particular defend its vital airbases from the serious and credible possibility of imminent attack.
