Elgin Army Cadets are one step closer to raising enough funds to travel to Belgium and France to honour soldiers from the First World War.
The cadets from 1st Battalion the Highlanders’ Elgin Detachment organised an open afternoon to raise money for their “battlefield tour” later this month.
Members of the public were able to visit the Detachment Centre on Edgar Road and learn more about the cadets’ future trip and take part in fundraising events such as bottle stalls and raffles.
Two members of the Battalion Pipes and Drums also entertained visitors.
The event raised £200 towards the tour, on top of £500 already received in the form of cash donations from local businesses.
Elgin Detachment Commander Graeme Wells said: “The support from the local community was overwhelming, even in the heat. On behalf of the detachment I would like to thank everyone who supported the event either by donating or by coming on the day.
“I am of course most proud of the cadets as the whole day was organised by them from start to finish.”
