A team of RAF Lossie reservists will today set out on a 1,000 mile cycle ride, tackling the famous John O’Groats to Land’s End route.
The challenge is being undertaken to raise money for both the RAF Association and MFR Cash4Kids charities, with the servicemen from the 2622 Highland Squadron planning to cover the route by cycling 100 miles a day.
The six-strong team – supported by four colleagues – hope to finish their challenge on Friday June 22.
Flight Sergeant Roy Geddes is leading the group and said: “As an injured serviceman, the support the RAF Association gave me and my injured men after an incident on Operation Herrick in Afghanistan was outstanding.
“Many service personnel and their families still require their support today.
“The local community goes out of their way to support UK armed forces and RAF Lossiemouth as they are proud of what we do in times of adversity.
“We want to give something back to the community and that’s why we are supporting MFR Cash4Kids as well.
“This great charity puts all money donated straight back into the community. This year they are looking to set up an arts studio for autistic children to help them develop social skills.”
A fundraising page has been set-up at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/roy-geddes to allow people to back the team’s efforts.
Their progress can also be followed on the Highland Squadron’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/2622sqn.
