Organisers of one of Moray’s most popular family events have vowed to make this year’s bigger than ever.
Scores of people will race down the River Lossie on July 29 in rafts they have made themselves.
This year’s theme ties in with the RAF’s centenary, with all entrants encouraged to dress up accordingly.
A RAF Lossiemouth spokesman: “It is only fitting that the Lossiemouth Raft Race honours the centenary of the RAF by making the fancy dress theme for this year’s race entrants ‘100 Years Of The RAF’.
“We’re hoping this year’s event will be better than ever as we’re having more interactive displays and entertainments, and theming the event as a celebration of the Royal Air Force’s centenary. The teams entering the raft race usually have some really good costumes, and we expect they will really take to the fancy dress theme, and we’ll see some wonderful rafts and outfits.”
Moray Council is partnering with RAF Lossiemouth to organise the event, with profits going to charity.
The Ladybird Group, Moray Fresh Start, MFR Cash For Kids, and the RAF100 Appeal are the recipients this time around.
With the day usually well attended by locals and tourists alike, there will be numerous stalls to keep people of all ages entertained.
In recognition of the centenary theme, several RAF Lossiemouth sections will be providing displays of some the equipment they use.
Morayvia will also be in attendance, giving people the chance to get up close to a Sea King and a Jet Provost.
Since it is a family event, children’s entertainment will take place with mascots such as Minnie Mouse, Scooby Doo and Chase from Paw Patrol all set to make an appearance.
Last year’s raft race winners, the Steamboat Inn, will be hoping to take home the coveted Toilet Seat Trophy once again.
