A Moray man played 10 rounds of golf to raise money for a charity close to home.
Bryan Fotheringham undertook the mammoth task yesterday for Alzheimers Scotland in tribute to his father, who was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2016.
The 40-year-old began his first round of Forres Golf Course at 3.30am, and kept going throughout the day – even landing a hole in one.
The Forres support worker is already a keen golfer who plays off a +2 handicap and has been working hard in preparation for the “very difficult” challenge, which covered around 50 miles.
He said: “I’ve always wanted to do something for charity, and after my dad’s diagnosis I thought why not now?
“I planned it last August and have spent the last year getting as fit as I can. I’ve been hitting the gym more often and preparing as well as I can for this challenge.”
Mr Fotheringham’s father Richard, 69, was a keen supporter of his amateur golf career, which resulted in him winning the Forres Club Championships 11 times.
“My dad was always supportive of my golf career ever since I was a young boy playing in the junior championships,” he said.
“Even in the pouring rain he took me to all of my tournaments so this is a nice way to say thanks to him.”
Mr Fotheringham admitted the last three or four rounds would be the toughest he has ever played, adding: “I did a practice run of playing five rounds in a row and that went OK but this is a different proposition.
“If I can’t complete the challenge now, then I’ll never be able to do it. I’m fitter than I’ve ever been before so this is it for me.”
