A group of outstanding open water swimmers will arrive in Moray to train at a local sea school.
Cullen Sea School (CSS) will play host to The King’s Swimmers, a crew of athletes who specialise in open water swimming.
Led and coached by three experts in their field, Kevin Murphy, Kathy Batts and Ian Muir, the team will be based in Cullen for the next few weeks.
Mr Murphy is well-known as one of the world’s greatest open-water swimmers and has swam the English Channel 28 times solo and holds the male record for swimming it a total of 34 times.
The group will be completing training sessions of up to six hours at the school.
Katalin Urquhart, CSS manager added: “We are delighted for Kathy, Kevin and Ian getting in touch with us initially and putting not just the Cullen Sea School but the North of Scotland onto a map for open-water swimming.
“We envisage these camps being organised from year to year bringing tourist and watersports enthusiasts to our internationally acclaimed coastline.”
The Three Harbours Association owned Cullen Sea School will be accommodating the swimming events from today. As part of the event CSS’s own volunteers and staff will provide safety cover using the school’s RIBs and kayaks.
