Three of Moray’s biggest beer makers have teamed up for the first time to produce a special brew to support a massive charity event.
Windswept Brewing from Lossiemouth, Spey Valley Brewery from Mulben and Rothes Brewery got together yesterday to devise the German-inspired festival ale which will be served up at this year’s Moktoberfest.
The annual bash in Elgin’s Town Hall recreates the tastes and smells of a traditional German beer hall with a soundtrack of Bavarian music.
Last year, the event raised more than £10,000 for local rotary clubs in Aberlour, Keith and Elgin to distribute across a host of different charities.
Yesterday, the team brought together the ingredients to brew the, as yet unnamed new beer, which will be served up at the beer festival.
The brewers spent the day in Rothes checking on their creation while organising a barbecue for guests and music to create a festival atmosphere.
David MacDonald, owner of Spey Valley Brewery, said: “We’ve spoken about collaborating on something for the last two years but never got round to doing it.
“We started planning it early this year just to make sure we could all get together.”
Nigel Tiddy, managing director of Windswept, added: “We agreed a generic recipe to start the beer off and then split the rest of the ingredients between us.”
About 1,000 people are expected to attend Moktoberfest at Elgin Town Hall this year on Friday September 28 and Saturday September 29.
