Moray MP Douglas Ross has called on the Scottish Government to take immediate action to address the concerns of worried Moray mums-to-be about the maternity ward action plan.
Health Secretary Jeane Freeman has received a proposal from NHS Grampian, detailing how they were going to reinstate the downgraded maternity service at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin.
However, campaign group Keep Mum hit out at the plan after seeing a draft version in which their concerns were seemingly ignored.
Mr Ross has now held a conference call with Ms Freeman, where he pressed her to make the plan public and outline a solution for the problem as soon as possible.
He said: “Following a second request to her office, I have now held a conference call with the health secretary.
“While I welcome the fact we have discussed this crucial issue, the public still haven’t seen the draft plan and are still seeking answers.
“The health secretary has agreed to outline the findings of the draft report which she is viewing alongside the Keep Mum comments.
“This is also extremely important as NHS Grampian refused to include any of their proposals in the report.”
A Scottish Government spokesperson said last Friday: “NHS Grampian has submitted their draft plan of how they intend to restore a full obstetric service to Dr Gray’s hospital.
“The Scottish Government will consider the plan and discuss it with NHS Grampian, and the plan, when finalised, will be made publicly available.”
