An Inverurie father has died following an incident involving a roller door at a city car dealership.
Mark Mathers, 33, was rushed to hospital on Saturday at about 9am after he was seriously injured at Specialist Cars Volkswagen on Craigshaw Crescent.
The contractor, who had been working on a roller door, died on Tuesday afternoon.
Police officers have now launched a joint investigation with Aberdeen City Council into his death.
The Health and Safety Executive will not be involved in the inquiry.
Last night his family said: “We are devastated by what has happened.
“Mark will be sorely missed by all who knew him.”
Tributes also poured in for the industrial door engineer on social media yesterday evening from his friends.
One post from a close friend said: “Devastating news. Mark was an incredibly fun guy to be around, and an utterly devoted father.
“All of us who grew up with him will remember his cheeky smile, and insatiable appetite for having a laugh.
“But tonight, we mourn his loss and think about his family.
“Rest in peace buddy.”
Police confirmed officers were investigating the incident.
Detective Inspector Norman Stevenson said: “Our thoughts are with Mark’s family at this very sad time.
“An investigation is ongoing in conjunction with Aberdeen City Council, and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”
A spokeswoman for Specialist Cars Volkswagen said: “We are all saddened to hear about the tragic loss of Mark Mathers following the incident at our premises on Saturday morning.
“Our thoughts are with Marks’ family and friends at this terribly difficult time.
“I would like to commend all our colleagues on site for their quick action and response.
“We are providing counsel and support to all individuals involved.
“We will continue to work with the relevant authorities.”
