A retired north-east offshore worker has created a poignant war memorial at a Moray church by using sand bags and helmets to represent the fallen.
Wullie Adam, from Buckie, spent three weeks creating the memorial so it would be ready for the remembrance events in the town.
The monument, which has been erected at the Church of Christ, comprises painted stones assembled to create a large poppy.
Green helmets have also been laid on sand bags to recreate the trenches where soldiers fought for their country.
Mr Adam, 69, has had a lifelong interest in both world wars and was moved to create his own memorial after visiting the Somme battlefield during the summer.
He added: “It’s something I’ve always been interested in. While I was visiting the Western Front I started to get a few ideas together about what I might like to do myself.
“It was quite emotional to visit the Somme and to think about all the things that happened there.
“I’ve always got projects on the go and with it being 100 years since the end of World War I, I wanted to do something myself to mark it.”
