A housing association is appealing for ideas from locals to name its newest complex in Moray.

Construction is underway on Hanover Scotland’s development on the former site of Spynie Hospital in Elgin.

The housing estate will include 44 two-bedroom homes including a mix of flats, cottages, extra care flats and wheelchair-accessible units.

The first of the dwellings, which are being funded by Health and Social Care Moray and the Scottish Government and being built by Robertsons, is due to open in September.

Now locals are being given the opportunity to name the development with ideas that connect to the area, reflect the history of Elgin or give visitors a warm welcome.

Adam Curry, Hanover Housing Association’s director of organisational services, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming our first residents to the Spynie development  and want their new homes to have a name that reflects the surrounding area.

“When completed, this important development at Spynie will provide a range of homes to suit the different needs of older people, allowing them to receive care and support in the community so they can live independently.”

Suggestions can be e-mailed to Hanover Housing Association’s communications team at communications@hanover.scot

The deadline for entries is March 23.
