A Moray businessman has hit out at “boy racers” who have torn up the car park outside his firm’s new showroom.
Grampian Furnishers only opened their base in Elgin in October last year to expand from their old premises in Lossiemouth.
The site on the outskirts of town has subsequently become popular with drivers parking their cars at night and in the early morning.
However, CCTV cameras attached to the outside of the building have captured footage of two cars doing “donuts” on the gravel, causing stones to be scattered in all directions.
A video shared by the firm on Facebook shows a red car spinning its wheels on the car park while becoming almost consumed in a cloud of smoke from the exhaust.
Managing director Royce Clark has revealed that the reckless driving had not caused major physical damage to the grid installed to hold the surface in place – but estimated it could take up to a day to rake all the stones back into place.
Yesterday, Mr Clark explained he had delayed reporting the incident and handing the footage over to the police, instead giving the motorists a chance to return and repair the damage they caused in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
He said: “Since we opened, we have actually had a few boy racers, or whatever you want to call them, come down at night to the car park and actually do very little while they’re there – which is no big deal, I don’t have a problem with that.
“I don’t want to have to put up barriers because I know other people use the car park early in the morning to walk their dogs, plus there’s the expense too.
“They’ve not quite damaged the grid system, but they may have loosened it.
“It’s quite a big job to fix it though, and it’s not just a case of getting a brush and raking a few stones.
“Some of them have gone into the grass area where you would almost have to pick them up individually.”
