Emergency services remain on the scene.
UPDATE 9pm:
Two men have been transported to hospital.
One man has been airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary while another was taken by ambulance to Dr Gray’ Hospital in Elgin.
UPDATE 7pm: The driver of the van has been released.
A spokeswoman from the fire service said: “We assisted the ambulance service in rescuing a casualty from the van involved in the crash.
“We are still on the scene and cannot comment on injuries.”
The road is closed both ways passing Moss of Barmuckity due to the incident.
A police spokesman said: “We were called to a two-vehicle crash on the A96 Elgin to Fochabers Road at 6pm.
“One driver is trapped within a van but we cannot confirm the extent of injuries at this time.
“Ambulance crews are also on the scene and a helimed was called at 6.12pm.”
Representatives from Bear Scotland are in attendance to divert motorists.

Traffic Scotland have confirmed the road will be closed for “some time.”
The crash involved a White Peugot and a White Fiat Scudo van.
