Work will begin on 250 new affordable homes in Moray before the end of the year.
The £9.7million investment programme, which is being funded by the Scottish Government, will involve the council working with other landlords including Osprey Housing, Cairn and Hanover Housing Association.
The units will be spread across Elgin, Keith, Buckie, Mosstodloch, Hopeman and Aberlour and are expected to be completed before the end of 2022.
Last year, 90 affordable homes were completed in Elgin, Forres and Keith as part of the council’s plans to ensure there is enough supply.
There are currently about 3,500 outstanding applications on the council’s waiting list for a home in the region.
Louise Laing, chairwoman of the council’s communities committee, explained that, despite contractual delays on some sites, other locations had been brought forward to ensure the authority met its target.
She said: “We’ll continue to work with other social landlords in Moray to ensure we keep up the momentum on affordable housing delivery.”
