An inspirational Moray youngster has organised a charity extravaganza to thank the medics who help support her.
Lucy Stewart, from Elgin, is due to take part in a sparkly Strictly Come Dancing contest next month to raise money for the Archie Foundation.
The nine-year-old was born with complications that resulted in her wind pipe being connected to her food pipe, which required a major operation when she was just a day old.
The Bishopmill Primary School pupil still attends regular check-ups to ensure she is fit.
Next month Lucy will take centre stage with her classmate Lily Allen to dance the cha-cha-cha in Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom, at a bash which is being organised by the sick children’s charity.
And to raise cash ahead of the event the determined youngster has organised a family fun day at Elgin Town Hall comprising a range of stalls as well as music and other activities.
Mum, Claire Stewart, said: “Lucy and her sister Emma have gone out and done it all themselves. I told them if they want to do it then it’s up to them.
“It started off as just a coffee morning but it’s grown. Lucy wanted a bouncy castle so we had to go to a bigger venue, she was very excited to get the town hall stage.
“She loves Strictly, she always wants to know what’s happening in it and loves to wear sparkles.
“Fortunately she’s been doing alright the last few months so we haven’t had to go to the hospital much recently. She gets on very well with all the doctors and nurses though.”
Lucy’s family fun day will be held at Elgin Town Hall on Saturday, September 28, from noon to 3pm.
