A busy street through Keith will be closed for four weeks as urgent repair works are carried out on the Milton Bridge following damage earlier this summer as the result of a car crash.
As a result, a four-week road closure will be put in place from Monday September 30 to Sunday October 27 to allow the safe completion of works.
Repair works are being undertaken on the bridge parapet and wing wall and will be undertaken by a contractor on behalf of Moray Council.
Local councillor Donald Gatt welcomed news the repairs would be undertaken.
He said: “There is not a huge diversion and it will slightly inconvenience some road users but I don’t envisage the closure causing too much trouble.
“We have been cutting back on road repairs and it is not good in the long term as roads are the arteries of Moray in commerce and we would like to see them maintained to a decent standard.
“But decisions have to be made on where to spend money, whether on roads or on schools and at times it can be a bit of a no-brainer, but sooner or later we have to also address the diminishing road condition.
“I am glad to see repairs being carried out where they are required.”
Traffic from Station Road will be diverted along the A96 at Regent Street, taking in Church Road and Seafield Avenue.
