It has become a popular place to curry favour in Moray.
And now, Elgin’s Spice Tandoori has been named as the Best Regional Restaurant of the Year in Scotland at the Asian Restaurant & Takeaway Awards.
The eatery snapped up the prestigious prize during a special event at the Park Plaza Hotel in Westminster. And the triumphant owner, Humayun Rashid, described receiving the accolade as an “incredible honour.”
The awards are in recognition of Britain’s best South Asian, Thai and Chinese cuisine across a series of prestigious regional and national categories.
There were no less than 2,400 applications from across the UK and the winners were selected by an eclectic panel of ambassadors and judges.
Mr Rashid said: “It is an incredible honour for us to be named as the Best Regional Restaurant of the Year in Scotland.
“We thank our valued customers in Elgin, without whom this would not have been possible. Curry and Asian food have become such a huge part of British culture and to be recognised as the best in Scotland is a huge honour.
“We truly feel part of the fabric of the Elgin community, and we dedicate it to them.”
The nation’s curry industry contributes £5billion on an annual basis and there are now more Indian restaurants in Greater London than in Delhi and Mumbai combined.
The event was hosted by BBC News newsreader and ARTA ambassador Samantha Simmonds. And the former Sky News anchorwoman was joined by entertainer Paul Martin as co-host at the event.
