Work to repair a collapsed drain that caused backlogs across a Moray town were expected to be completed last night.
Issues with the gully on Edgar Road in Elgin near the Asda supermarket caused council crews to take the decision to reduce traffic to one-way in the area on Monday.
However, the street was reopened several hours later after delays spread as far as the A96 Inverness road near the High Street and up Linkwood Road to the Cottar Hoose roundabout.
Last night, work crews from Moray Council returned to the area to complete repairs to the drain during the night to ease the effect on traffic.
A diversion for eastbound motorists to the level crossing at The Wards was expected to remain in force until 6.30am today.
