Efforts by a Moray community group to preserve the area’s seafaring past has been praised.
The Buckie and District Fishing Heritage Centre has collected a vast archive of model boats, fishing equipment and interviews with the crews who landed catches in the town.
Volunteers man the attraction to preserve the area’s heritage for youngsters while showcasing it for tourists.
Yesterday Moray MP Douglas Ross praised the group’s efforts of ensuring that Buckie’s fishing heydays are never forgotten following a visit to the museum.
He said: “Buckie and District Fishing Heritage Centre is the type of facility that we need in our communities where our history is carefully recorded and displayed in the various different collections for current and future generations to learn from and enjoy.”
Heritage centre chairman John Addison added: “It was a great opportunity for us to tell Douglas all about our own experiences as we grew up working in the industry.”
