A housing association has launched Elgin’s first car club to let residents and locals rent electric vehicles.
Osprey Housing launched the initiative this week with two Renault Zoe cars in the town’s Pinefield Crescent.
The move follows the development of Moray Carshare, which has designated charge bays in Forres, Kinloss and Findhorn.
Jane McWirr, Osprey’s sustainability officer, explained similar schemes could help save residents money by easing the burden of them having to cover road tax and insurance bills themselves.
She said: “As well as the obvious benefits for air quality and sustainability, the car club will fill the gap as a more flexible option when public transport may not be suitable, for drivers who just need a car occasionally, or when the family car is being used elsewhere.
“It’s also a chance to discover the benefits of electric cars, especially since the Scottish Government hopes to phase out petrol and diesel vehicles by 2032.”
