A man has been arrested following a crash in Moray that injured six people.
Two cars were involved in the incident on the A98 Fochabers to Banff road near Buckie on Thursday.
Police confirmed that a “short pursuit” had taken place before the crash happened at Rannachy at about 3.15pm.
However, it is understood that the chase was not in progress at the time of the Boxing Day incident.
The crash has now been referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) to determine whether the circumstances need to be examined.
A police spokesman confirmed that a 28-year-old had been arrested by officers following the incident.
He said: “We can confirm that a short pursuit took place earlier on the A98, prior to the crash near Rannachy.
“This incident has been referred to PIRC for further consideration.
“A 28-year-old man has been arrested pending further inquiries.”
One person was airlifted to hospital in Inverness from the scene with serious injuries while five more were treated for minor injuries by emergency services.
The A98 reopened at the scene once emergency services had left the area at about 1am yesterday.
