A man killed in a horror crash between a bus and a car last month has been named as a Moray pensioner.
The vehicles collided on the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road on the western outskirts of Elgin on December 27.
Yesterday police confirmed that the man who died in the collision near the junction with Morriston Road was Ian Meiklejohn from Forres.
The 80-year-old was the driver and only occupant of a blue Dacia Duster.
The other vehicle involved was a scheduled Stagecoach service from Inverness to Aberdeen. The driver of the bus was taken to Dr Gray’s Hospital with minor injuries. None of the passengers who were travelling on board were injured.
Stagecoach has already pledged to assist police with their inquiries to establish the circumstances that led to the tragic crash.
The accident, which happened at about 9.30am, prompted a large response from emergency services with four ambulances sent to the scene to check on the condition of those involved.
Four fire units were also sent to the scene but left after about 30 minutes once the area had been made safe.
Police remained at the scene into the evening to carry out investigation work with the road remaining closed for most of the day.
