Two project workers will be hired to work with Moray students as part of a National Lottery-funded scheme to try and reduce the cost of the school day.
The Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) has received a £2million grant to work in regions across the UK.
Moray has been chosen as one of the areas for the scheme to try and reduce barriers for low-income families.
Initiatives that could be trialled include providing sibling discounts for trips, removing costs for subjects including home economics and technology, reviewing uniform prices and providing a starter pack of stationery for pupils.
Vivienne Cross, Moray Council’s head of education, said: “Moray is a predominately rural area and poverty can affect our young people in ways that are not always obvious, but can have a damaging effect on their learning.”
