A Moray community has announced plans to use wind farm cash to power a recruitment drive of apprentices in the area.

The Finderne Development Trust receives an annual fund of £138,000 from the Logie Wind Farm operating in its area.

The group, which covers Rafford, Dunphail, Edinkillie and Logie, has ambitions to sustain the rural villages and ease problems for those who live there.

Now it has unveiled a vision to use the money to help local firms cover the salary, travel and training costs for apprentices.

It is hoped the project will encourage young people to stay in the area while also helping businesses to grow.

Development manager Pery Zakeri said: “This project has great potential to bring about long lasting change to Finderne.

“If we can enable a major shift in the population profile, we can build a vibrant, sustainable and balanced community.

“We have already been approached by businesses working in timber, horticulture and tourism who have welcomed the project for breaking down obstacles which may have prevented them from being able to up-skill their employees and create new positions.”

The apprenticeships, which are being supported by Skills Development Scotland, are the first project launched by the group from its inaugural five-year plan.

Businesses have been invited to attend a workshop in the Long Room at Logie Steading on Monday, February 24 at 10am to learn more.
