Demolition has begun on a crumbling landmark in a Moray town that helped launch generations of seafarers.
The former Jones and Herd and Mackenzie shipbuilding yards have stood on the coast at Buckie for more than a century.
However, demolition crews have now begun tearing down the ageing structure after Moray Council declared it dangerous when pieces were spotted falling off the building.
Contractors moved onto the site about two weeks ago to initially make the site safe but have now started work on the demolition of the huge shed, which has stood since 1918 but has now fallen into ruin.
Buckie councillor Sonya Warren said: “It’s definitely bittersweet because the shipyard has a lot of heritage, it’s where people learned their trade and worked.
“It’s a big part of Buckie’s culture so it’s sad to see it go but at the same time it’s unsafe and is making way for potential future developments.”
Kingfisher Marine, who own the site, have pledged to clear the site to make it suitable to be redeveloped.
