Lossiemouth has had its first set of traffic lights installed.
The new traffic lights and safer pavements were commissioned at the busy School Brae junction.
Moray Council has been working with the walking and cycling charity, Sustrans, to develop a cycle and pedestrian-friendly traffic light junction at the bottom of School Brae.
In a study carried out by Living Streets in 2017, it was identified that the junction at School Brae was a particular barrier to children walking to school, and posed a risk to cyclists and others attempting the crossing.
The junction has now been completely reshaped to make it easier and safer for pedestrians, particularly those with prams or who are less able.
It is also shorter, so those crossing the road are less exposed. In addition, the new contours have been designed to act as a traffic-calming measure to vehicles travelling uphill.
Cyclists will have their own dedicated traffic light symbols so they can travel safely from Coulardbank Road to Clifton Road, with the kerb lowered to smoothly access the road crossing.
The whole focus of the junction changes has been to make it safer and easier for pedestrians and cyclists, whilst still allowing traffic flow.
