A Moray care home will build a new lift worth £110,000 on the outside of the 190-year-old building.
The existing facilities at Anderson’s Care Home in Elgin are too small to suit the modern requirements of residents and carers.
Planning permission has now been granted for an improved lift to be built on the outside of the rear of the main building, which has been designed to take several passengers and equipment at the same time.
The care home has confirmed that the process to appoint contractors can now begin amid hopes it will be ready to use by October.
Meanwhile, it has been announced that two further performances of the play The General, which tells the story of Andrew Anderson who founded Anderson’s, will be held at Elgin Town Hall on May 20 and 21 to contribute to the fundraising target.
A bequest from Lieutenant General Anderson established the care home, which opened in 1832.
Two sold out performances of the play were staged in October last year.
