Tourism bosses hope the opening of a new golf academy in Moray will drive the region to be a “must play” destination.
David Torrance, who has helped nurture talent including Russel Knox, Hannah McCook and Sandy Scott, is currently based at the Spey Valley Golf Club in Aviemore as a full-time coach.
However, he will move to Forres Golf Club in April to launch an academy to provide advice to players of all abilities and ages.
Moray Speyside Tourism believes the decision will enhance the area’s reputation among players.
Shona Donnelly, who leads the agency’s golf development group, said: “The group was set up to promote the area as a ‘must play’ destination within Scotland, attracting golfing visitors to the region and ensuring they have the best possible experience.
“The golf academy strengthens that offering. I have no doubt that golfers from both near and far will utilise the great facilities it will provide”
The new academy will include a golf simulator, which was opened at the club last year, as well as a practice green and driving range.
Mr Torrance said: “I was enticed by the club’s dynamic and enthusiastic attitude and vision of the future of golfing at Forres and the importance they place on growing the game.
“My plan at Forres is to produce more champions from grass roots.”
