A Moray care home resident described as a “ray of sunshine” has celebrated her 100th birthday.
Hilda Thomson is originally from Clochan and worked as a home economics teacher at Buckie Community High School.
In honour of her milestone birthday, she celebrated with tea and cake alongside fellow residents and staff at Netherha Care Home in Buckie before receiving a congratulatory message from Her Majesty The Queen.
Due to the Covid-19 lockdown, she was unable to celebrate in person with family and friends, but was surprised by her son John who wished her a happy birthday through the care home window.
More than 100 friends, relatives and former student also took to social media to send congratulatory wishes and fond memories on her special day.
Ruth Smith, manager at Netherha Care Home, said: “Hilda is a ray of sunshine in these difficult times and she is very much loved by the residents and staff. Although she wasn’t able to gather with family and friends, she was overjoyed to see her son. It was a very happy occasion and she was really touched by the outpouring of love and support from her friends in the community.”
