An RAF Lossiemouth technician has cycled 310 miles in 30 days to raise money for injured veterans.
Callum Witkowski, a survival equipment technician at the Moray airbase, bought a bike to keep fit during lockdown and soon decided to make the most of the new hobby.
As lockdown restrictions eased, the 24-year-old took on the challenge of pedalling hundreds of miles around Lossiemouth to raise money for Help for Heroes.
He is striving to raise £500 for the charity which has been forced to cancel many major fundraising events this year.
Dutch-born Mr Witkowski was brought up in the region, where he went to Lossiemouth High School before joining the RAF.
He said: “I bought a bike during lockdown to keep my fitness levels up, but I have now got the cycling bug.
“Being from a military background, Help for Heroes has always been a charity close to home as it helps our own and forces families like mine.
“So I decided to put my new hobby to good use by raising funds for the wounded and injured veterans they support.”
Mr Witkowski added: “I have been trying to go alternate routes to and from work to increase the distance.
“The cycling varies around the local area of Lossiemouth, which has some great scenery when the weather is nice.”
David Martin, Help for Heroes’ head of fundraising, praised Mr Witkowski for choosing to help the charity as it faces the pandemic’s financial implications.
He said: “Help for Heroes is hugely grateful to Callum and all his fellow fundraisers who have chosen to support us this year.
“Like all charities, our fundraising income has been hit and we need to raise essential funds to ensure we can keep supporting our wounded and sick veterans.”
