A Moray charity is preparing to shift focus in its response to the coronavirus pandemic but says its work remains as valuable as ever.
Elgin-based Children 1st has provided food vouchers, cooked meals and money advice to support those in need during lockdown.
Now, as restrictions ease, the cause is running summer activities and beach days for families and children who have been affected by trauma.
Staff have also started running socially-distanced walks and garden sessions for young people who have suffered mental health difficulties during the pandemic.
Meanwhile, a programme to support pupils moving from P7 to S1 has been organised to help ease their worries and encourage them to build friendships.
Service manager Mandy Morrison said: “As time has passed, we’ve found that local young people were facing increasing challenges with their emotional wellbeing.
“This has been due to a variety of factors including strained family relations, financial pressures on families and a lack of structure and routine due to not travelling to school and the absence of relationships which can act as protective factors within school.
“Over the summer, we will continue to provide whole family support for those children and families who may need more support to cope.”
The charity has been supported by the People’s Postcode Lottery, which has raised more than £6.9million for Children 1st, which has branches across Scotland, during the last 12 years.
