A Speyside community stalwart has been praised for his commitment to helping improve Aberlour over three decades.
Last week, the Aberlour Community Association (ACA) presented dedicated office bearer Hugh Fraser with an engraved crystal whisky decanter and glasses, together with a whisky to mark his retirement.
This comes after Mr Fraser stepped down in March this year, having been involved with the ACA since 1989.
He served as the treasurer at the group for many years before taking on the chairmanship where he processed a business plan in 2014 which resulted in the community asset transfer of the Old Station Building from Moray Council.
The 73-year-old himself considered his finest hour to be coordinating the Aberlour’s Bicentenary celebrations in 2012 which was crowned with a visit from the Duke of Rothesay.
His other community roles have included being treasurer of Aberlour Strathspey Highland Games for 25 years, Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival Ambassador in 2016 and treasurer of Aberlour Senior Citizens Association for 26 years.
Dr Bill Malcolm, who recently took over as chairman of the Aberlour Community Association, hailed Mr Fraser’s “phenomenal” 30 years dedicated to helping the Speyside community.
Mr Malcolm said: “What Hugh Fraser has done for the community of Aberlour in a host of different guises is phenomenal, and he’s an impossible act to follow as chair of ACA.
Meanwhile Lord-Lieutenant of Banffshire Andrew Simpson paid tribute to him in a letter: “For over 30 years you have been a stalwart of the Aberlour Community.
“As Treasurer and Chair of the Aberlour Community Association, and in many other capacities, you worked tirelessly for your community.
“Your contributions to Aberlour and the surrounding area have made an immeasurable impact to enrich the lives both of local residents and visitors.
“Your leadership, practical actions and support for others have made a difference and are greatly valued.”
