A rural Moray road remains closed after a motorist was killed in a two-vehicle collision yesterday.

The accident involving a car and a truck happened on the B9016 Keith to Buckie road, approximately two miles north of Aultmore.

It is understood that a male driver of a silver Mini Cooper was killed in the collision which caused her car to burst into flames.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 4pm when the car was said to be well ablaze.

The truck driver is understood to have been unhurt in the collision and did not require medical attention.

One witness to the aftermath of the crash spoke of being able to see the plume of thick black smoke rising up into the sky as he drove along the road.

The exact site of the accident is about 200yds north of the turn-off to Mulben.

The road was closed off while crash scene investigators, including a police photographer, examined the scene.

Speaking last night, a police spokesman said: “We can confirm that we are currently at the scene of a serious two-vehicle road traffic collision on the B9016.

“As a result of the collision, one person has died.”

The road was expected to remain closed until the early hours of the morning.

Council convener Stuart Cree said he did not want to comment until the circumstances of the collision become clearer. He did, say, however, that work had taken place within the last two years to straighten parts of the road.
