A local councillor has been chosen to be the Labour candidate for Moray at next year’s UK general election.
Following a meeting of Moray Labour members in the region, the party has selected Sean Morton to fight the seat.
Speaking after his selection Mr Morton, who represents the Fochabers-Lhanbryde ward on Moray council, said: “I am honoured to have been chosen. Having represented my home patch for a few years in the council, I know how people are struggling.
“We need someone to put Moray first and help build a Britain for the millions, not the millionaires.”
Mr Morton, who is aged 32, used to attend Milne’s High School in Fochabers.
He left school in 1999 to go to Stirling University where he joined the Labour Party and also became active in the cause of disability rights.
He was elected to Moray Council in May 2012 and played a prominent part in the fight to try save Fochabers Police Station from closure.
Sandy Keith, the chairman of Moray Labour Party said: “We are delighted to have Sean as our candidate for next year’s general election.”
“He is a proven campaigner and is dedicated to working hard for the people of Moray.”
