Daniel McLeman followed in the footsteps of not just one, but three other members of his family when he decided to study at Aberdeen University.
The 21-year-old’s grandmother, Jean, his father William and auntie Jessie all attended the historic establishment during different decades.
And as Mr McLeman, who is originally from Keith, graduated with a 2:1 degree in law yesterday, he said it was a privilege to join the family alumni.
His grandmother – who watched him pick up his award yesterday – graduated exactly 40 years ago with a degree in history, his father a degree in soil science in 1986 and his auntie also graduated with a degree in history.
Mr McLeman has been the only one of his siblings to follow them to Aberdeen, with the others attending St Andrews University.
He said: “It was tougher than I expected – the exams were intense – but I enjoyed every minute of it and met some great people.
“I only decided to go for it when I spent my gap year working at a law firm in Keith.
“I really enjoyed it and decided to study law.”
Mr McLeman has lined up work at Aberdeen-based law firm Ledingham Chalmers, which he hopes to continue part-time when he starts a Masters degree in oil and gas law next year.
“It’s been the best four years of my life and I don’t regret a second of it,” he said.
