A Moray schoolgirl has launched a crusade to clean up the streets around her home town.
Bronagh Dallas regularly picks up a bin bag full of rubbish on her way to school.
And now the seven-year-old is setting up a litter-picking group so other children can join her campaign.
Bronagh, who lives in Bain Avenue, Elgin, has been gathering rubbish every day for the past five months.
Keep Scotland Beautiful recently gave her an award in recognition of her efforts, which began following a visit by the Scottish SPCA to her school.
During a talk by one of the charity’s officers she learned of a hedgehog that almost died after getting trapped inside a discarded plastic bag.
The youngster, who goes to New Elgin Primary, said: “I don’t want any animals to be hurt because of the things that people throw away.”
Mum Moira said: “I’m really proud of her. Nobody suggested this – it’s entirely her idea to set up the group, just as it was to start collecting rubbish in the first place.
“However, since she started she’s had so much encouragement from people saying what a good job she’s doing.
“People in our neighbourhood have seen her at work and have started referring to her affectionately as the ‘litter girl’.”
A number of other groups, such as Elgin SPICE, already organise litter collections but Bronagh’s will be the first specifically aimed at children.
“The aim is to have a litter pick once a month and to concentrate on parts of the town, such as play areas, which mean something to children, rather than just normal streets,” added Mrs Dallas.
